Saving Energy

Energy is what we use to make things work. Whether it’s the lights in our house, the TV, video games, computers, cars or trains, they all need energy.

Much of our energy is produced from fossil fuels, such as coal and oil. To make this energy we have to burn it and this creates pollution. This type of energy is also non-renewable, because once it is used, it cannot be used again.

Energy that is made from fossil fuel creates carbon emissions and to stop this from occurring and to ensure our environment is protected, we can use renewable or clean energy. This includes solar and wind energy. When energy is renewable, it means that its source, such as the sun and wind, will never run out and can be used repeatedly.

Your home or school may use renewable and clean energy, such as solar roof panels for heating and lighting. There are also many different things you can do to save energy, such as turning off lights when you leave a room and walking or riding a bike instead of driving the car.

Most importantly, renewable and clean energy sources do not involve the burning of fossil fuels, thereby contributing to a cleaner atmosphere through less pollution, with the result being a better environment.

How to Play

Our homes are full of items that guzzle up energy. Lots of things can consume energy even when we're not using them! Help collect all the energy in the house to minimise its environmental impact.
